CONN, NORMAN

Norman “Sonny” Conn, of Fayetteville, OH passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Hospice of Cincinnati-East. He was born in Hillsboro, Ohio on August 9, 1941 to the late Luveta (McRoberts) and Choncie Conn. He graduated in 1959 from Beavercreek High School and later from Miami Jacobs Jr. College in Dayton, Ohio. Norman enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the 318th USASA (US Army Security Agency) Battalion, stationed in Herzogenaurach, Germany for most of his military career.

He worked in many skilled trades but eventually found his success in sales. Throughout his life, he had a strong work ethic and his achievements in sales came from his gift of gab (or bullshit depending on the audience) his wit and most importantly his loyalty to his customers. Sonny retired from Lykins Oil in Milford, Ohio. He was a man of faith and never met a stranger. His love of the outdoors led him to hunting, fishing, gardening, and in his most recent years one of his biggest joys was playing cards. He was an avid fan of college basketball and enjoyed time with his grandchildren. He will be forever remembered as a “foodie” with his passion for cooking and feeding everyone who came in his door. The ornery sparkle in his eye and smirk in his smile will be fondly remembered. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

He is survived by his spouse of 22 years, Judith Ann; daughters Correen (David) Lannom of Westerville, OH and Michelle Conn of Miamisburg, OH; step-children; Kathy (Tom) Thayer, Michael Penkunas, Christopher (Julie) Penkunas all of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandchildren Alicia, Alex, and Ben Lannom, Sean Humphrey and Amee Conn-Bonner; step-grandchildren Jennifer Himes and Jamie (Tim) Coe; sister Marlene (Harold, Jr.) Bogard; special niece Vetta (Tom) Burris, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special thanks to his close friends for being by his side for anything he needed, Bill and Gerry Harness, Linda Brown, Steve Gambrel and family, the water aerobics group at the “Y” and others too many to mention within the Lake Lorelei community.

Family will receive friends at the Lake Lorelei Club House, 586 Lorelei Drive in Fayetteville, Ohio, on Saturday, July 23rd where a celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. The family requests you bring along a note or short story to share from your memory of Norm. A private interment will be held in the family cemetery in Morehead, Kentucky on Sunday, July 24th.
