Cora Elizabeth Thompson August 18, 1951 - March 30, 2025

Cora Elizabeth Thompson, better known as Liz, passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of March 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 18, 1951, in Covington, Kentucky, to Mima Mae Turner and Edward Turner, and resided in Newport, Kentucky.

Liz was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, friend, and perhaps what she cherished most—grandmother. She dedicated much of her life to caring for and uplifting those around her, always offering love, wisdom, and unwavering support.

Liz worked for the KY State Department until her retirement in 2003. Her most treasured role began after retirement, when she fully embraced her calling as a grandmother. Over the past 20 plus years, she played an instrumental role in raising her three beloved granddaughters, creating countless cherished memories and leaving an indelible mark on their lives. Her patience, dedication, and love made an incredible difference in their lives, just as it did for everyone who knew her.

Liz had a deep love for bringing her family together. She cherished hosting large family dinners, cooking for the holidays, and making Christmas desserts for her children, grandchildren, niece and nephew. She enjoyed going on family vacations, especially to Jekyll Island, Georgia and various destinations in Florida. She was also an avid reader.

Liz passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, after celebrating one last family dinner together filled with tons of laughter and love, a true reflection of the warmth she brought to every gathering.

She leaves behind her daughters Janice (Rodney) McIntosh and Tiffany (Dustin) Kocher; her granddaughters Tiffany and Sarah McIntosh and Mckenzie Kocher; her brother Gene (Wanda) Turner; her niece Donna (Adam) Kohring; nephew Lance Turner; as well as several great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Mima Mae Turner and Edward Turner, as well as her sisters, Sarah Herald and Janice Herald, and nephews Gene Herald and Brian Herald.

Liz’s love for her family was evident in everything she did, and her presence will be deeply missed. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love she so freely gave.
