HEFFNER
William Bennett, 92, of Cincinnati, OH, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2015 at Christ Hospital. He was born in Columbus, OH; raised in Circleville, OH where he graduated Cranbrook School in 1941, he attended Kenyon College and graduated University of Michigan in 1948. He enlisted in the US Army in 1942, where he served as platoon sergeant in Patton’s 3rd Army, 89th Infantry Division. He participated in the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns, culminating in the liberation of Ohrdruf concentration camp, a Buchenwald sub-camp. Decorated with the Bronze Star, he was honorably discharged in January 1946. After three years with the Heffner Grain Co., Circleville, he moved to Cincinnati in 1952 and began a 44-year career with the Pease Company, holding a variety of senior management positions. Memberships include; Presbyterian Church of Wyoming, University Club, Cincinnati Club, University of Michigan Club and Ohio Society. A multi-sport athlete in college, he especially enjoyed playing golf with his lifelong friends at Wyoming Golf Club. He was preceded in death by his parents Matilda Bennett Heffner and Harry Wefler Heffner of Circleville. Grateful friend of Kimberley Evon Wolf. He was a devoted husband of 63 years to his wife Janet Pease Heffner who preceded him in death in 2011 and his son William Bennett Heffner, Jr. in 2014. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Stephen) Heffner-Donovan of Cincinnati; Susan (Charles) Heffner-Monnier of Basel, Switzerland and daughter in-law Laurie Lanz of Terrace Park. Loving grandfather to Katherine Pease Donovan of Boston; George (Jennifer Howler) Bennett Heffner of Terrace Park; Philippe Edward Monnier of Zurich and Christophe Allan Monnier of Fribourg. Great-grandfather of Harlow Ann Heffner and Macy McNabb of Terrace Park. Graveside service will be 10 am Saturday, Aug 22, 2015 at Spring Grove Cemetery with a 9:45am escort at the Gray Rd. entrance to the Pease family plot, all followed by a Buffet Luncheon at 11:30am at Queen City Club.
