Betty Ann Nordman (nee Schnermann) passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025, at age 90.
Betty was born on September 5, 1934, in Covington, KY, the eldest child of German immigrants Franz and Johanna (Thobe) Schnermann. Her family returned to live in Germany shortly after her birth. At age 19, Betty traveled to Bellevue, Ky to spend the summer with her cousin Mary Jean (Schumacher) Feldman. During her stay in Kentucky, Betty fell in love and married Elmer Nordman on October 8, 1955. She was a devoted wife for 65 years, until Elmer’s death in August of 2021.
Perhaps known best for her German accent, Betty was always remembered fondly by those she met. She enjoyed gardening, walking outdoors, family and friend get-togethers at her home, traveling, and preparing her chocolate chip pies, and “green cookies.”
Betty is survived by her children: Mike (Cathy) Nordman, Gary (the late Amy Juengling) Nordman, Marita (Brian) Lukey; her grandchildren: Eric (Janie) Nordman, Bart (Tara) Nordman, Jake (Ellie) Nordman, Richard (Jamie) Nordman, Peter Nordman, Lisa (Jacob) Middleton, Brianna (Matthew) Quillen, Tyler (Jamie) Lukey, and Camille (Matthew) DeStefano. Betty also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren: Ashley and Caroline Nordman, Claire, Kate, and Grant Nordman, Harrison and Mary Katherine Nordman, Harrison and Carter Middleton, Connor, Ainslee, and Russell Quillen, and Olive Lukey.
She will be deeply missed by her surviving German family, dear sister Inge Kerstiens (Norbert), and many nieces and nephews, whom though far apart, have always held her closely.
Betty is preceded in death by brother Franz Josef and his wife Regina Schnermann.
Betty will be remembered and celebrated during a family gathering at the beach this summer, her favorite time of year.

May 12, 2025 at 8:49 pmThe family is in my prayers. I took care of her and hubby at Magnolia Springs for many years and I loved them very much. I saw the love they had for each other and it always made me smile. She loved to tell me stories about her life and believe me when I say, we could talk forever. She loved every morning that I would come in and get her meds set up for when she was ready and left her a note on tissue, saying Have a great day, love you. She always knew it was me. So special and I’m a better person for knowing them. Thanks to the family for letting me take care of your parents. Marita thank you for bringing her to eat dinner with me a few times, we loved Mai Thai in Florence. I will never forget you all. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
