Edward William Stehle (Ted) May 10, 1938 - June 1, 2025

Edward William Stehle (Ted), 87, passed away on June 1 at The Christ Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on May 10, 1938, in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Edward Louis Stehle and Mary Grace Miller Stehle.

His father was employed by General Electric throughout Ted’s school years. The family made many moves while he was growing up and he attended several schools. He graduated from Huntington High school in Huntington, WV. in 1956.

Ted married Audrey Pittman on July 2, 1970, in McComb, MS. They were planning to celebrate their 55th” wedding anniversary on July 2. He was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) where he served in the late 50’s. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Pittman Stehle, children, Sheri Stehle Collins (Tom), Diane Stehle Dix, (Doug), Mark Edward Stehle, (Katja), grandson Brandon Oberschlake, (Jeff Valyou), grandson Jeremy Stehle, granddaughter Monique Stehle, and sister Ginny Stehle

Ted worked at various GE locations around the country for 37 years with the company. In 1989 he transferred from San Francisco, CA to Carmel, IN where he continued in TV sales and marketing until retirement in 1998.

As retirement approached, he and Audrey, who boated on Chesapeake Bay for many years, turned that love of boating into a life adventure. They created a plan to take time off and spent over a year cruising the waters of the Eastern US on a voyage called The Great Loop, which they completed in late 1999.

After Looping, Ted and Audrey shared their knowledge and passion for the waterways of the Eastern US by becoming Waterway Guide editors. Ted continued working with Waterway Guide by editing the Skipper Bob books and vetting reviews for use in the Waterway Guide digital versions until earlier this year. He also spent countless hours pursuing his other interest, golf, and was an active and beloved member of the Heritage Club in Mason.

Gatherings and a Celebration of Life will be held later in the summer and announced when details are developed.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Evans Scholars Foundation which provides full tuition and college scholarships to qualified golf caddies.
