John T. Phillippi

John T. Phillippi May 5, 1934 - August 16, 2025

John T. Phillippi “Tom, Tommy, Uncle Tom”, age 91, of Cincinnati (Fairfax), OH, passed away peacefully and went home to be with Jesus on August 16, 2025.

Born on May 5, 1934, in Akron, OH to the late Charles and Celeste Phillippi. John was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to his neighbors and people who he had known throughout his life.  Known for his ability to fix anything and do just about anything in his meticulous and precise ways, he helped many of his family members and neighbors; especially in his retired years after he devotedly took care of his beloved wife Doris, who had Alzheimer’s for 18 years.

John, moved to Somerset, KY to his grandfather’s farm in 1936 due to the 1930’s Great Depression.  He lived in various locations in Somerset until about 1943.  He moved to Dayton for 4 years, and then back to Somerset until his 10th grade year.  He moved back to Dayton where he graduated from St. Evers High School in 1953.  After high school, John joined the United States Air Force and served 4 years.  John married Virginia “Doris” Woodall while stationed in Ft. Worth, TX.  He and Doris moved to Dayton after his enlistment and John started working at Monroe Calculator Co. in September 1957.  In 1962 John transferred to Cincinnati and moved to Fairfax in 1963 where he worked until he took early retirement to be Doris’ caregiver for 18 years. The love of his life passed away in 2007 and he remained a widow until his death.

John is survived by his 6 children: Greg, Rhonda, Gayla, Carla, Kirt and Lisa; his 18 grandchildren: Luke, Ginny, Jordan, Justin, Jansen, Branden, Bryan, Cody, Austin, Dylan, Carson, Caleb, Veston, Violet, Stefan, Jarryd, Lauren and Monique and his 10 great grandchildren and counting: Christian, Mason, Hunter, Wyatt, Lillian, Nevah, Gabriel, Oakley, Grayson and Autumn and many nieces and nephews.  John was preceded in death by his sisters Betty and Bertie and his brother Jim.

John’s faith and family were important to him.  Anyone who knew John knew he loved his wife, children and especially his grandchildren, who enjoyed the time they got to spend with him doing lots of activities.  He loved spending time doing athletic activities, being outdoors in nature, walking and hiking (especially with his beloved German Shepherd Clint). John especially liked riding his bike (with his kids and especially with his grandkids!) He loved piddling in the basement and doing projects, but what he like most was using his skills to fix and do things to help his neighbors, especially Kim and Mary and before she passed our special “Ma” Grace Moss and anyone else who he could use his skills to help!

John (DAD and POPS!) will be greatly missed.  Although he is not present with us here on earth anymore, he will be forever loved and in our hearts with many wonderful memories, and we look forward to the day we will see him again in heaven!

John 14:6

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”.

Romans 3:22-24

We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.  For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.  Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight.  He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty of our sins.
