Florabel Hain Mosbaugh September 17, 1923 - February 18, 2023

Florabel Hain Mosbaugh died at home with her family in Amelia, Ohio on February 18, 2023. She was 99 years old.

Flo was born to John Jacob Hain and Flora Edith Schiffner of Middletown, Ohio.

She attended Pennsylvania State College and Northwestern University, starting in 1941, and later in life at the University of Cincinnati Evening College. Her college years began with a delayed start due to the polio epidemic and were interrupted by her marriage and work in support of World War II. In college, she studied Pre-Medicine and Commerce.

While in college, motivated to contribute to the war effort, she completed the American Red Cross Volunteer Nurse’s Aide Corp providing vital assistance to overburdened nurses in civilian, military hospitals, and hospital ships.

Flo married her husband, Richard (Dick) Mosbaugh on June 28, 1943. The two first met at a summer camp in her junior year of high school. After they married, they moved to various Army bases during Dick’s six-year service as Major in the Army Dental Corp. In South Carolina, Flo worked at Stark General Hospital.

The couple raised three children, Carl, Allen, and Dale Mosbaugh.

Flo was adventurous, curious, an avid traveler, committed to her family, and devoted to meaningful conversations and experiencing the world.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, Dale. She is survived by her sons Carl Mosbaugh of Fayetteville, Ohio; Allen (Kathy) Mosbaugh of Amelia; and daughter-in-law Kathy Mosbaugh of Albany, Oregon. Her grandchildren include Kim Frier, Middletown, Ohio; Amy Cruze, Middletown, Ohio; Jason (Amanda) Mosbaugh, Amelia, Ohio; Christine (Steve Spurgeon) Mosbaugh, Albany, Oregon; Adam (Erin) Mosbaugh, Amelia, Ohio; Eric (Sophia Preziosi) Mosbaugh, Dayton, Kentucky; Brian Mosbaugh, Moab, Utah; and Erin (Travis) Luker, Amelia, Ohio. Her great grandchildren include Jackson Mosbaugh, Amelia, Ohio; Briar Mosbaugh, Amelia, Ohio; Kayl Mosbaugh, Amelia, Ohio; Elliot Mosbaugh, Albany, Oregon; Juniper Mosbaugh, Amelia, Ohio; Owen Luker, Amelia, Ohio; Austin Luker, Amelia, Ohio; Wesley Mosbaugh, Dayton, Kentucky; and Oaklyn Luker, Amelia, Ohio.

A brief graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at 1:00pm at the Woodside Cemetery in Middletown, Ohio. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at 1:00pm at the Heritage Center Arboretum, 890 Eight Mile Road, Anderson Township, Cincinnati, Ohio 45255.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Association and Hospice of Cincinnati.
