H. Robert Baer May 12, 1924 - January 28, 2019

H. Robert (Bob) Baer passed away on January 28, 2019 at the age of 94.  He was the beloved husband of Charlotte for 64 years, who preceded him in death in 2013.  He was the father of Nancy (Jim) Goetzel, Robert (Susan) Baer and Wendy (Steve) Platamone, Grandfather of 8 and Great Grandfather of 14.  Bob graduated from Boardman High School in 1942 and attended Duke University, graduating in 1946 with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Upon graduation he entered the U.S. Navy and served for two years. His life was dedicated to his family and to the many students and athletes he taught and coached in his 30-year career in education, retiring from Youngstown Rayen High School.   His track teams won 9 city, 8 district and two regional championships.  His 1980 team was state runner-up.  Both his 1976 and 1987 teams finished fifth at the state track meet.  At retirement he was considered the ‘Dean’ of Youngstown track. Upon retirement he and Charlotte moved to New Bern, NC where they lived for 20 years, making many new friends and golfing buddies.   Bob enjoyed golf, bridge, scrabble, wood working and watching his Duke Blue Devils.  In 2009 he and Charlotte moved to Cincinnati to be near family.   A Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 1:30 at the New England Club, Cincinnati, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Queen City Hospice. Fares J. Radel Funeral Homes and Crematory, 5950 Kellogg Ave. Cincinnati, OH, is assisting the family.
