LYNAGH

James Thomas Lynagh, 83, passed away at 11pm Friday January 19th 2018 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. His wife and fellow adventurer Joanne Dyer Lynagh preceded Jim in death in January 2015. He leaves behind four devoted children; Kathy Gonzalez (Barry); Betsy Hampton (Tom); Jim Lynagh Jr. (Adele); Jen Clawson (Andy); nine adored grandchildren Michael Gonzalez, Kate Gonzalez, Matt Hampton, Kyle Hampton (Molly), Kasey Hampton, Sam Lynagh, Brynn Lynagh, John Clawson and David Clawson. He also leaves behind a beloved brother, Ed Myers (DeeAnn); well-loved nieces and nephews, his cherished Aunt Betsy Bentley; extended family and many, many dear and faithful friends. Jim was born in Birmingham Alabama, June 25, 1934 to Howard and Hazel (Cowan) Lynagh. In the years that followed he pursued a life in Broadcasting that led him to Nashville, Tennessee where he met and married, Joanne, his wife of 60 years. He lived in 19 different cities, working for local television stations and major broadcast companies. His career included launching television stations onto the airwaves in the 1960’s, being an affiliate board member of all three major television networks, and chairman of NBC’s affiliate board, working with and meeting many fascinating people through the years and eventually retiring as chief operating officer of Multimedia Broadcasting. Gregarious, generous and civic minded; he enjoyed a post career life of travel often accompanied by family and friends, spending many summers in Ireland where they opened their temporary home to friends and family. He was also an ardent cheerleader for his grandchildren’s passions in life. A memorial celebration of life will be planned for this spring in Boone, NC. Fares J.     I was very sorry and sad to learn of Jim’s death. My wife and I had dinner with him and other friends back in the fall. As a fellow broadcaster and democrat, I always appreciated his emails, thoughts and comments. Please accept our deepest sympathy.
