John R. Allen Jr of Anderson Township, OH, passed away on June 30, 2012 at age 90. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Beth (Minnie) Allen in 2009. He is survived by two sons, John (Joan) of Springfield, VA, and Jim (Christina) of Anderson Township, OH, and five grandsons, Daniel, Timothy, Jeffrey, Christopher and Zachary. “Wants to be: Aviator.” “Likely to be: Private in Army.” That’s what appeared in John’s 1940 high school yearbook. He and his classmates were both right, except his classmates were short-sighted. John wasn’t. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1961, after a 20-year career, as a “Charter Chief”. He earned this distinction since he was in the very first group of United states Air Force sergeants to earn the newly established rank of Chief Master Sergeant in 1958. After retirement from the Air Force he had a successful second career as a draftsman for the Ladish Co. Inc, Cynthiana, KY and Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, Palm Beach Gardens, FL. His greatest joy came from traveling the world and being an excellent father, grandfather and friend. Services will be announced at a later date at Drake Funeral Home, Cynthiana, KY. Internment, with military honors, will take place in the Battle Grove Cemetery following the service.
