John Porter Hicks, of Amelia, passed away March 11, 2018 at the age of 60. John was born and raised in Terre Haute, Indiana and graduated from Indiana State University. He enjoyed his career as a computer programmer. He is survived by his loving wife, Angela; son, Johnny; sister, Susan (late Clint) Gibler; brother, Jim (Jillayne) Hicks; brother-on-laws, Alan (Marlene) Comella and Vince Comella; nieces and nephews, Clint, Ben, Kate, Jim, Brian, Neil, Kim (Tommy) and Tammy (Billy) along with many more relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 17 at 10:30 am at St. Bernadette Church in Amelia, Ohio.

March 17, 2018 at 11:58 pmJohn was a good friend mine for over 45 years. We met in high school, worked at Ramada Inn (while in high school) and went to college at ISU. We spent countless hours together at too many bars to count (Sonka, Pizza City, Charlie’s Hideaway …) just drinking beer, talking playing pinball, euchre and foosball. We have traveled together on numerous trips to nowhere special, just see what was there. I will never forget when John turned 21, we went to our favorite bar, Sonka. John went to Pat, the owner, and showed Pat his ID and asked for a free drink for his 21 birthday. Pat said “you better not be 21 since you have been coming in here almost every day for the year.” Instead of giving John a free drink, Pat kick him out. Luckily, Pat let him in the next night.
