Ricky Mills, age 65, passed away on January 11, 2026, at his home surrounded by loved ones. A man of many stories and a heart of gold, Rick lived a life defined by hard work, resilience, and an unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
A skilled painter and laborer by trade, Rick was known as the type of person who would drop everything at a moment’s notice to help someone in need, regardless of the time or day. He was a natural storyteller who loved to blend truth with a bit of fiction to keep his audience guessing. With a quick wit and a love for acting silly, Rick’s greatest joy was making others laugh.
He found solace in music that touched his soul and loved to dance. He was also a passionate fan of UK Basketball and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Though he navigated many difficult times and profound grief throughout his life, his spirit remained anchored by the love he held for his family.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Allie Mae Mills-South and Green Mills; his beloved daughter, Allie Ilene Mills; his siblings, Paris Mills, Donnie Mills, and Lester Mills; his sister, Carol Raisor; his niece Audrey Mills; and his cherished long-time paramours, Aleta Kirk and Charlene Novogroski.
He leaves behind a large and loving family who will miss his humor and heart:
• Children: Kristy Needham (Charles) of Middletown, OH, Nancy Smith (Kenny) of Ft. Thomas, KY, and Ricky Mills of Erlanger, KY.
• Stepchildren & Family at Heart: Brian Ellis (Ethel) of Erlanger, KY, Angela Ball of Erlanger, KY, and his “daughter at heart,” Leslie Novogroski of Florence, KY.
• Siblings: Lonzie Rye of Erlanger, KY, Darlene Posey (Wayne) of Newport, KY and Maxine Mills of Independence, KY.
• Legacy: He is also survived by several grandchildren, Becca Shepard, Austin Shepard, Lexi (Chase) Hembree, Trenton Bridewell, Harley Mills, Rylan Mills, Emma Cooper, Parker Turpin, Kemper Ball, Brian Ellis, McKenzie Lane, and Dragan Ellis. Two great-grandchildren, Braxton and Brooklyn, and many nieces and nephews.
