Walter Mayo "Chappy " Chapman, husband of Catharine 'Cathy' Chapman,  passed away Sunday, March 25 at home in Cincinnati,OH  surrounded by many loving family members. Chappy served in the US  Army with the 10th Mountain Division in Italy during World War II and married Anna K. Maxwell in 1945.  Following her death in 1990, he married Catharine 'Cathy' Wilson.  They spent many happy years traveling, volunteering with The Nature Conservancy, Cincinnati Nature Center and Museum Center and enjoying his 12 grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Cathy, of Cincinnati, OH, siblings Katherine 'Kay' Gammons of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Kenneth Chapman (Patricia) of Whitefield, ME, sister-in-law Ursula Chapman of Granite Bay, CA; children Dawna Fazio (James) of Moscow, ID, Jay Chapman MD (Patricia Ledden MD) of Pulaski, NY, Glen Chapman MD (Malinda) of Ticonderoga, NY, Laura Knight (Bill) of Meriden,NH,  Fred Chapman PhD (Eleonor Schneider) of Newcastle, WA; step daughters Leslie Wilson-Surma (Ronald) of Oriental, NC and Tina Wilson (Tim Carter) of Fraser, CO; 12 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.  He was preceded in death by step son Timothy Wilson, brother Eugene 'Gene'  and brother-in-law Warren Gammons .
A celebration of his life will be held at 12 noon April 14th at the Cincinnati Nature Center.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Cincinnati Nature Center, Rowe Woods, 4949 Tealtown Rd.,  Milford, OH 45150; The Nature Conservancy, Ohio Chapter, 6375 Riverside Dr. Ste 100, Dublin, OH 43017, or the Cincinnati Museum Center, 1301 Western Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45203.
Sincere thanks are offered to the people of Christ Hospital of Cincinnati, Regency Hospital of Cincinnati and Hospice of Cincinnati who provided such wonderful care and support after Chappy's surgery in January. All will dearly miss Chappy's gentle kindness, wisdom and sense of humor.
