Carl Max Showalter, 92, passed away on August 4, 2025, at his home in Cincinnati. He was born on August 20, 1932, to the late Carl N. and Emily Showalter, of Fountain City, Indiana. He graduated from Ball State University with a degree in education. He then served two years in the U.S. Army, in Germany. Upon coming home, he met Jeanne Ann Fox. They married and spent 58 years together. They raised three daughters, Debi, Sally, and Stacey, and both enjoyed long careers as teachers in the Muncie Community Schools. After retiring, they moved to family property in Fountain City, where Max enjoyed golfing, reading, and mowing his acreage. Max is survived by daughters Debi and Sally, son-in-law Denny, grandson Christopher and his wife Rachelle, great grandson Westley, brother Robert, sister-in-law Donna, and many nieces, nephews, and their children. Max was preceded in death by his wife Jeanne, brothers Dick and Jim, daughter Stacey, and granddaughter Kate. A memorial will be held at Smith, McQuiston, and Webster Funeral Home, in Fountain City, Indiana, at 11:00am on August 16, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Willow Grove Cemetery, Fountain City, Indiana or Ball State University Department of Education, Muncie, Indiana.
